“Welcome to SongMakers Stevenage”

Focussing on Guitar based lessons I offer a diverse range of courses. Whether you are a beginner, a keen strummer looking for guidance, a parent trying to introduce structured music to your child’s education or a retired professional wanting to dust off the old axe and feel like a teenager again – there is something here for everyone. YouTube is full of wonderful lessons and the choice of books (compared to when I started) is amazing BUT there is nothing that beats sitting in a room with an experienced, professional musician. The Practice Roomz in Stevenage is fully functioning rehearsal/recording studio and the perfect environment to inspire and develop your craft. Imagine walking in for your first guitar lesson and walking out, in the not-too-distant-future, with an MP3 of your own self penned songs.

So, a little about me. I gave my first lesson, aged 18, to the kid across the street. In 2005 I began working as a full time guitar teacher for Southern Counties Music and taught in 15 primary schools around Hertfordshire. Then came PlaySomething in Ware; 4 years as their Band Coach teaching groups to learn, practice and perform their favourite songs. Finally (and currently) De Rosa’s Music Hub in Bishops Stortford where my lessons range from KS2-KS3 Graded lessons, Song writing coaching and solo/band performance. My ethos is all about taking talent to the highest level – this could be in front of an examiner, a local open mic or an arranged gig with a ‘real’ audience.

A good guitar teacher needs to have lived a little right? It’s cliché but I most definitely attended the University Of Life. Moving to London I signed a record deal with Warners/ZTT (owned by Trevor Horn). It was the 90’s and things were unstable to say the least and in 2002 I found myself as a session musician performing on shows like TOTP, CD:UK, ITV, Disney & the BBC with Artists like Lionel Richie, Peter Andre and many who have long since disappeared. This led to a full time band position with ex Savage Garden front man Darren Hayes. We literally toured the world playing amazing venues like The Royal Albert Hall, Wembley, LA Roxy, Sydney State Theatre and even Abramovich’s nightclub in Moscow. This is where my Song Writing career began – as a co-write on the opening track of Darren’s 2012 album. Later that year I began working with west-end superstar Ramin Karimloo, who has played the lead in Phantom, Les Mis, Miss Saigon as well as Broadway shows in NYC. Ramin has a passion for Folk, Country and Bluegrass music and as his band leader (MD) we toured America, The UK and S.Korea playing acoustic-country versions of Musical Theatre’s greatest hits. So that’s about it – Ooops!! I nearly forgot – Since 2014 I have written and released 2 albums, 3 EP’s, 5 singles and toured, played festivals, radio shows and host my own regular night in Hertford. All my songs are signed to a publisher and since 2017 many of them can be heard daily in Caffe Nero as well as TV soap ‘Home & Away’, CBBC’s + more. I attend annual songwriting retreats hosted by Squeeze’s Chris Difford and have written alongside Dave Stewart, Nik Kershaw, Mark Nevin, Graham Gouldman, Beth Nielson-Chapman to name a few. All of this alongside teaching duties which have always been my regular day-job.

OK that’s enough about me. Hopefully you are convinced that I have the depth of knowledge and experience to provide a service that suits you. Check out the ‘modules’ using the website’s menu and find the right lesson for you…….
